You know those kids who puzzle everyone? The tough, scrappy, take-no-prisoners kids? Smart, but not quite making it at school? These kids are speaking in some kind of code and most people just can't figure it out. I believe that all behavior is communication. Over the years I have been able to de-code and translate behaviors into parent-speak, family-speak and school-speak for many wonderful children.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Vermont; trained in family therapy, a former school counselor, (once single) mother of two -now- wonderful adults (who were CHALLENGING) two step children ('nuff said), five grandchildren (who ARE sometimes challenging) -- and children's theater director, which brings creativity into the mix - I can help.
I work with families and schools to understand when, where and how and why each child needs the most help. Together we write effective behavior plans, create systems for communication, and find ways to assure follow through.
